Kansas City-Style Rib Rub

  • Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 6 ½ tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Essence or other Creole Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

  • Combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl, and stir to combine. Be sure to crumble any lumps of sugar or spices that are present in the mix. Use for meats and seafood to be grilled, as well as for making the barbecue sauce. Any unused rub may be stored in an airtight container and kept in a cool, dry place for up to 6 weeks.
