Alex's Baked Beans


  • 1 can plain baked beans of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Steen's 100% Pure Cane Syrup you gotta have Steen's baby, no other syrup will do)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 pinch black pepper and a pinch salt
  • 4 to 6 strips bacon
  • 4 tablespoons barbeque sauce (your favorite bottled or homemade)


  • Sauté the onion, green pepper and garlic in butter. As soon as they begin to soften, turn the flame down to low and add the baked beans. Place the bacon on a baking pan and place it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes. As soon as the bacon is ready, pat off all of the grease and chop it into small pieces. Immediately stir the bacon into the beans. Add all of the other ingredients and let simmer until the beans begin to get soft. This usually takes about 1 to 2 hours. If you are using a crock-pot, sauté the onions, bell pepper and garlic, then place everything into the crock-pot and cook for 4 hours.
