Smothered Green Beans


  • 1/2 cup chopped bacon
  • 1/4 cup diced ham
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
  • 1 pound green beans, trimmed
  • Salt and black pepper


  • In a saucepan cook bacon until fat begins to render. Add ham, onion and garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add beans and 1 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until beans are very tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Drain. Transfer to a warm dish for serving.
