New Orleans High School Students Dream Up Next Emeril’s Dish

$100,000 Grant from Emeril Lagasse Foundation to Complete Culinary Arts Center

NEW ORLEANS (September 10, 2010) – Emeril Lagasse Foundation invited aspiring young culinary students at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) to create an original dish inspired by the traditions of Louisiana’s Creole cuisine. Chef Emeril Lagasse and a panel of New Orleans chefs and restaurateurs will select the winning dish from three finalists based on taste, presentation, creativity, use of fresh, seasonal ingredients and representation of Louisiana’s cuisine.

Emeril Lagasse Foundation also announced today a $100,000 grant to fund the final stages in the development of a four-year culinary arts program at NOCCA. Emeril Lagasse Foundation is the founding partner in the effort to establish a four-year culinary arts program for high school students and has granted over $500,000 to develop curriculum for the program. The school is expected to admit its first students to the culinary arts program in spring 2011. Read more »

Louisiana’s First Lady Supriya Jindal to Distribute School Supplies in Boothville and Violet

BATON ROUGE (August 10, 2010) – Today, First Lady Supriya Jindal will distribute school supplies to students whose families have been impacted by the oil spill and deepwater drilling moratorium in coastal Louisiana. She will visit Boothville-Venice Elementary in Boothville at 11 AM. The First Lady will also visit W. Smith Elementary in Violet at 12:30 PM.

Emeril Lagasse Foundation Joins Fight to End Hunger in Las Vegas with Funding for Three Square Food Bank “Kids Cafe®”

LAS VEGAS (November 17, 2009) – At the Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s fifth anniversary “Carnivale du Vin,” a crowd of 700 guests gathered for an evening of food, wine and revelry on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at The Venetian in Las Vegas and helped raise $1.9 million for children’s causes.

Building on the Foundation’s mission to support children’s culinary arts, nutrition and education programs in communities where Emeril Lagasse has restaurants, Lagasse announced his Foundation’s partnership with Three Square food bank and a grant to establish Kids Cafe® – a program of Feeding America – in three Las Vegas area pilot schools, to provide nutritious afterschool meals to more than 500 students.  In addition to serving meals, the program will teach students healthy eating skills so they can make smart choices about food. As a result of this event, which continuously ranks among the “Top Ten U.S. Charity Wine Auctions” in Wine Spectator magazine, the foundation has granted over $3 million to charities on the Gulf Coast since the inaugural gala held in Las Vegas in October 2005. Premier Wine Event Funds First “Edible Kitchen” in the Southeast

NEW ORLEANS (November 19, 2008) –  The Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s annual Carnivale du Vin, rated a “Top 10” charity wine auction in the nation by Wine Spectator magazine, raised $1.7 million dollars to benefit children’s arts, culinary and education programs in the Gulf South.  More than 600 guests attended the premier wine auction and gala at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, Saturday, November 15.

To further the growth of the Edible Schoolyard New Orleans at Samuel J. Green Charter School, Chef Emeril Lagasse announced a $200,000 grant from the Foundation to fund the new Edible Kitchen & Cafeteria. Chef Alice Waters was present to receive the grant as a special Carnivale du Vin honoree. Read more »

NEW ORLEANS, LA (September 29, 2008) – Emeril Lagasse Foundation (ELF) today announced $325,000 in grants to be awarded to nonprofit programs in the New Orleans area, bringing the Foundation’s total contributions to Gulf Coast organizations to over $2.3 million. The Foundation extends its partnership with the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) to establish the city’s first comprehensive 4-year professional training program in culinary arts for high school students. Gulf Coast Community Giving Now Exceeds $2 million

NEW ORLEANS, LA (May 1, 2008) – Emeril Lagasse Foundation announced $580,000 in grants awarded to educational programs and summer camps in the New Orleans area, bringing the total contributions to Gulf Coast organizations since Hurricane Katrina to over $2 million. The programs receiving support will provide New Orleans youth with nutrition and culinary education, innovative arts enrichment programs, and life skills development.
