Black-tie Gala, Golf and Fishing Tournaments Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation January 30-31
MIAMI - January 22, 2003 - Famed chef, restaurateur, TV personality and author Emeril Lagasse will participate in “Shine Miami,” a weekend of activities developed by Celebrity Cruises to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation, January 30-31.
Chef Emeril - whose “Emeril’s Miami Beach” restaurant recently opened on Collins Avenue - will make a special appearance at a black-tie gala dinner and auction at the Intercontinental Hotel on Saturday, January 31, and will contribute a recipe for the evening’s menu, which will be prepared by the Intercontinental staff.
“Shine Miami” was developed to celebrate the style and heart of the city and citizens while raising money for a worthy cause. In addition to the gala, weekend events include:
· Alex Fernandez Celebrity Golf Classic: The two-day tournament will pair golfers with celebrities including current and former MLB, NFL and NBA players and Champion Tour pros in an intimate foursome. Eighteen holes per day will be played at the beautiful Crandon Park Golf Course on Key Biscayne, Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31.
· Shine Miami Fishing Tournament: Participants will go out to sea to test their skills at catching saltwater species such as tuna, wahoo, kingfish and sailfish. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish caught in each category during a celebration on shore with an official dockside weigh-in and cocktails at the Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove, Saturday, January 31.
· Shine Miami Gala & Auction Celebration: The “shine” in Shine Miami undoubtedly will be most lustrous on Saturday night, January 31, during the black-tie gala dinner. In addition to the appearance of Chef Emeril, famed pop artist Romero Britto, known for his vibrant, whimsical and exotic works, will create a special work of art exclusively for the auction and will present it personally at the event.
Celebrity Cruises President and COO Jack Williams, a long-time supporter of CF and board member of the CF Foundation, conceptualized and orchestrated the “Shine Miami” weekend. He has helped raise more than $30 million for CF over the course of XX years - most recently raising $300,000 by crossing the finish line of the New York City Marathon - and anticipates the proceeds from “Shine Miami” will significantly increase that amount.
