The award is given to individuals who have made significant and long-lasting contributions to the wine industry. The first award was given in 1982 to German winemaker Alfred Fromm, and there are now 24 luminaries from around the world who have received this prestigious honor. Other past honorees include Robert Mondavi (1984), Eric de Rothschild (1993), Julia Child (1998) and Francis Ford Coppola (2003). All have displayed a passion for excellence, an appetite for innovation and a commitment to sharing the fruits of their success with those less fortunate. Two of Lagasse’s restaurants, Emeril’s New Orleans and Delmonico Steakhouse in Las Vegas hold the prestigious Wine Spectator Grand Award.
