BATON ROUGE (August 10, 2010) – Today, First Lady Supriya Jindal will distribute school supplies to students whose families have been impacted by the oil spill and deepwater drilling moratorium in coastal Louisiana. She will visit Boothville-Venice Elementary in Boothville at 11 AM. The First Lady will also visit W. Smith Elementary in Violet at 12:30 PM.
First Lady Supriya Jindal said, “I want to thank Emeril for what he’s done for our state and, especially for the children in coastal Louisiana. Thanks to the kind donations of citizens across the state and organizations like the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, students on our coast will be able to start off the school year with the supplies they need to succeed.”
“This is a tough time for our Gulf Coast residents and the resilient fishing community as they work hard to restore their livelihoods,” said Emeril Lagasse. “We’re honored to join the First Lady and her efforts to make sure that every child has the basic supplies in their backpacks and classrooms so that they can succeed this school year.”
