Popsicles - adult style

popsicle_071204.jpgPopsicles are a slick way to cool down in summer’s heat. At my house, ice pops with colorful stripes, twists and shapes, weird, crunchy candy or my child’s favorite, popsicles themed with favorite cartoon characters, fill the freezer.

As we get slammed by summer’s heat, icy treats appeal to everyone and that’s nothing new. Historians believe that some form of water-ice was discovered accidentally during Ancient Rome to satisfy Caesar’s taste for iced fruit juices and wines made with mountain snow. An ancient snowball perhaps?

Old Time Summer Drinks

Every time I see a Country Time lemonade commercial it does bring me back to the summers of my childhood before there was a plethora of bottled, canned and ready-mix drinks. Yes, I am dating myself and yes, I’m as old as the hills, but the drinks we had were indeed cooling and refreshing. Oh, yes we did have a bottled Pepsi or Coca Cola on occasion, usually for special occasions like the 4th of July, Labor Day or a birtday party.
