I’m really not a lush - well, not much of one anyway, but I do love trying new spirits with funky names or unique qualities. My latest discovery is on the ever-expanding vodka shelf and no SPF (Spirit Protection Factor) is needed for these UV’s.

Abita Brewing Company, Louisiana’s home-grown micro brewery, has launched a fabulous program called Abita Select, designed to get us drinking beers of different styles coordinated with appropriate glassware (just like wine), the season and food. Select also refers to the limited number of places that will pour this beer ‚Äìfifty nationwide.

When I saw that one grocery store had hung “low carb” tags on bottled water, I knew trouble was brewing, so to speak. The recent advent of “low carb wine” was validation of my concern and it also knitted my brow. Isn’t wine low carb already? Yes it is, unless you’re drinking port or icewine, etc. Nonehtheless, bottled water marked “low carb” moves like a raging river and so does “low-carb” wine. If you’re one of those who like to get it in writing, right there on the label, then check this out.

The 2004 Beaujolais Nouveau from France has just arrived on the market. The Nouveau is the first wine made from each year’s grape harvest and this year’s release is receiving very good reviews.

It seems that the market for energy drinks has a lot of…energy. Our markets are flooded with all manners of caffeinated, vitamin-laced drinks, carbonated or not, and all gunning for Red Bull, the inceptor of it all. Moreover, these drinks are typically marketed as a great mixer with alcohol. Now there’s an energy drink that goes against the grain and while the name may raise eyebrows, there’s more to it than meets the eye.
