Brunch & Dessert
Post Author: Angela SagabaenI had an ideal Sunday afternoon, beginning my day with brunch in the Bywater at Satsuma Cafe. I needed something substantial to feed my weary, but happy soul from the previous night’s outing with a few great friends.
As I waited for my order to arrive, I sat at my table, taking in the eclectic and casual decor and diners. Plenty of bright light leaked into the cafe, casting spotlights on the big, funky art pieces hanging on the exposed brick walls. A hip, but unpretentious crowd sat in salvaged, but fashionably picked furniture. My order arrived. The bacon, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich did just the trick as I washed it all down with a berry tea. I definitely forsee future visits to try other items on the menu.
Afterwards, I headed to the quarter for a stroll, ignoring the fact that summer was in full efect in New Orleans; it didn’t take long before I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat. I was relieved that my day’s agenda also included Meltdown Popsicles - Mexican-inspired, gourmet popsicles. The owner makes them with fresh ingredients, including whole pieces of fruit in them. I found salvation in a blackberry and cream popsicle. Yum.

The cafe looks inviting and interesting. It is nice to eat somewhere that has character and not a square box. It adds to the meal. I have to try berry tea..never tasted it before.
