Fresh Figs Wrapped in Bacon
Post Author: Jenny McCoyThis is such a simple dish to make at home. It makes a lovely appetizer, or hors d’oeuvres. And served alongside a green salad, dressed with balsamic vinaigrette, and a nice slice of thick country bread with butter, you’d have a meal in minutes.
Fresh Figs Wrapped in Bacon ~
(I would make this for one serving. Multiply as needed.)
Take four fresh black mission figs (which are perfectly in season, by the way), wrap each fig in a half slice of bacon, then slide them on to a bamboo skewer in order to hold the bacon wrap in place. Then, generously coat the figs in honey and roast until the bacon is cooked through and just crispy—at about 350 degrees. Throughout the cooking process, baste the figs with more honey and the bacon drippings a couple of times (you can use a tablespoon for this).

so how do you know when shopping for figs that they are ripe? I’m in a rural town and don’t think any local grocery store carries figs, but when I head into town I’m interested in buying some as I recently had a wine dinner at a nice restaurant and the first course was several cheeses, figs, and sauvignon blanc. the figs really made the difference - that type of dish could easily become a staple in my home!
