Who’d have thunk that the simple burger, Wimpy’s favorite food would turn into the icon of icons. Well after having eaten burgers with short rib meat and foie gras, burgers of every conceivable meat, fish and fowl, I thought there could be nowhere else to go. Wrong.

Tucker’s Tavern on South Roman Street in New Orleans, near the Superdome, serves “deep-fried stuffed burgers.” Stuffed? Stuffed; with anything from pepper jack, mozzarella, Swiss or American cheeses to mushrooms, jalapenos, bacon, chicken and ham. Then the whole works are battered and deep fried. Yikes. Yum.
