For Halloween, most kids wander around their neighborhood, knocking on doors, and begging for whatever treats—candy apples, homemade cookies, or store-bought candy.

But you might want to have your own neighborhood party. Decorate with make-believe spider webs, drape swaths of black and orange fabric on your porches or patios, and track down a source for some dry ice to put in a large pot to “smoke” during the evening. It really can be a lot of fun for everyone. Get the kids involved!Make some homemade cookies!

The main thing is to get organized. Prepare as much of the food in advance so you can partake of the ghoulish fun! Make a big pot of red beans and rice, or a risotto with lots of beef and mushrooms and allow guests to help themselves from a buffet to make it really easy. And don’t forget the French bread. Here are some recipes to get you started. Oh, and have fun and take care!
